Doesn't get better than this
Doesn't get better than this. Be aware that you do have to pay for lab test results. Duh! Of COURSE you have to pay for lab tests. This is the kit that puts it together and explains how to do it. There isn't a little botanist in the box to give you free lab results. We signed up on-line for email results, paid for expedited shipping to Florida, and expedited test results. The whole process took maybe 3 days. By submitting the nasty results to our landlord, they were all of a sudden eager to let us out of the lease. Without this, our landlord was claiming we were "going overboard," and "it's just mildew." Wrong. The results showed which mold species we're dealing with, and confirmed a medical diagnosis of sinus mold infection. You have two choices with this kit. You can take a sample out of your vacume cleaner bag and have them do a spore count, (I think they also tell you which species is included in the count) or you can take a sample of the actual mold you're concerned about and find out what species of mold you're dealing with. Or buy two kits and get them both, which is what we're doing. Among the concerns of living with mold is allergic reaction (stuffed up nose and other symptoms), mold GROWING in your body such as your lungs and sinuses, and mytotoxins that some molds give off which can have permanent health consequences. Find out which mold you're dealing with, then get a antigen blood test to see if THAT particular mold is impacting your health. Lots of steps, this mold kit is step one.

Deposited my check without sending the report
I purchased two tests, which were easy enough to set up, collect samples, and send in. As suggested in the product description, I put a collection dish outside and one inside for one hour, closed them up, filled out two separate forms, wrote two separate checks, and put them in the mail on the same day. I even put the test number on the memo line of the check. Easy...up to this point.I saw they deposited both of my checks a few days later and I received one test result a few more days afterward via email. I waited and waited for the other result. (Remember, the whole point of purchasing two tests is to compare outdoor and indoor mold varieties. In the case of mold exposure, the time to figure this out can be critical to our health.) When I reached out to their customer service about the second test, they said I never paid. I politely suggested that they review their records again and provided my check number that they deposited. Their reply bluntly (in two sentences) said I needed to send them a copy of my check (!!!); only then would they release the report to me. I was flabbergasted and this request, though I did it since I already spent the $40 for the test report.Bottom line: You have other choices for the same type of test...go with one of them.

happy with this kit!
i know that there was and is mold in my apartment, i've seen it and this place has had a lot of water damage. i just didn't know how harmfull mold could be until i started getting sick. now i know i have been getting sick since i moved in here... which was 6 years ago. i had a cough recently that wouldn't stop, had a chest x ray that showed severe inflamation, have had swollen lymph glands, spots in my throat, memory loss, hair falling out.. you name it. a friend of mine said to me one day about 2 months ago.. "didn't you say you had mold in that apartment? you know that stuff can make you very sick and even kill you". i talked to my doctor and she said if i knew what kind of mold it was they could test my blood. so i got this kit. it took a long time to actually get there after i did the test and sent it, i don't know why. i sent it early november and they didn't get it until the 18th. i had the results on the 30th and i had the mold that i suspicioned. i looked them all up (there were 3). the report failed to say how toxic these molds can really be. they say they are rarely reported as pathogens but i think that means the symptoms are diagnosed as something else. i asked that question and no one would answer me. from what i have read and studied the past several months.. yes there is mold everywhere but there is toxic mold in most of our public buildings, schools and homes. and it's attributed to other things cause god forbid that we have to tear down millions of buildings because they are killing us all. watch "dr andrew campbell and the effects of mycotoxins on the human body". it's on utube and it will scare the hell out of you. do you know that in the late 90s a study was done in this country on people that had chronic respiratory issues and over 90 percent of the them were from mold toxicity? do you know that canada saw this study and retrained ALL of their health care providers to be aware and educated and to look for mold toxicity in patients with symptoms and NOT blow it off as something else? what happened in the us where the study was done? hidden from the public and NO training or education to ANY medical professionals. we are all sick form this crap and no one talks about it, there are only a few states in the us that have any laws in place to protect renters that live in mold infested dwellings. in my state, the department that dealt with indoor air quality and mold was closed due to budget cuts. if you want anything done, you do it yourself, landlords don't even have to disclose and they don't have to clean it up. i have never been sick in my life until i moved here. people should be outraged and demand that this issue be a top priority in this country! if this stuff is in my blood (which i'm sure it is) i am looking for a lawyer. my landlord has known for a very long time that his buildings have mold in them and he has done nothing. as far as this kit goes. it tells you clearly that you will have to have a lab test the mold. if you had a true self test kit it would have to include a microscope and a a book that you would have to read and educate yourself thoroughly on and it would probably cost thousands of dollars, get real. how else do you think you are going to get a result? those cheap self test kits tell you you have mold, they don't tell you what it is. a lab needs to do that. all and all i was very pleased other than the time frame. i'm sure they are extremely busy since more and more people are finding out how dangerous this stuff can be. i did the research ahead of time and they were recommended as the best home kit on the market. crappy customer service doesn't mean a crappy product.

Useful results even without sending to the lab. Here are my counts if you want to compare.
I bought nine kits for about $10 each so I could get wide coverage around the house. After 48 hours incubation there was no mold visible in any of them. After 96 hours, they all had mold growths. I counted the number of mold growths in them, and the results were:The two outside samples had 13 and 9 growths. The garage sample had 7 growthsThe attic had 5 growthsFive samples from the living areas all had 4 growths, except the master closet with 3 growths.Since the outdoor samples had more than twice the mold as the indoor samples, this test gave me confidence that I don't have an indoor mold problem. I didn't send any to the $40/sample lab. You might consider spending your money on more kits rather than just buying 1 or 2 and sending them to the lab.I used electrical tape to seal the petri dishes to avoid any possibility of cross contamination, but the instructions don't say anything about taping them up.

pointless test
I bought 3, but returned 2, used one, and while it worked, they really over charge for testing the mold, making it pointless to even test.
