Great little scope for the money but comes with caveats

Mostly good and a little bad - great little scope, sturdy, mostly metal, seems well built. Just one of a range of similar scopes that dozens of brands sell but effectively all the same scope. The lenses - questionable, take specs with a large pinch of salt... As other people have said, comes with different lenses to what is advertised. I received a 4X, 6X, 10X and a 100X (bit of a leap there !). The good news is, the "100X" is nowhere near that. I replaced the 6X with my own 40X to fill that huge gap, and it turns out my 40X is physically longer and has higher magnification than their "100X". Without measuring I'd estimate the "100X" to be more like 30X at best. The eyepieces (50X) do seem to be high power (impractically high though). The Barlow lenses are marked "6X" but I'd guess are more like 3X or less. For a small home scope the maximum useable (real) magnification is around 1000-2000X (unless you like looking at your own eye boogers through chromatic aberration), so the theoretical maximum of this scope (50X x 100X x 6X = 30,000X !!!) is a bit excessive (I suppose you could count rainbow coloured atoms with it).The supplied lenses are only single element things, not the best quality, and the X markings on them are random (my 4X lens is more powerful than the 6X for example). Still decent though, just not the best. My advice is to invest in some new (known trusted) multi element lenses (about £12 each, not expensive). I'll be ditching the questionable "50X" eye pieces and putting some decent 10X in too. It takes industry standard DIN 160 lenses so very interchangeable with billions of options. Consider it more of a great platform to build on than a perfect scope out the box, it can be upgraded very cheaply to make an awesome bit of kit.All that being said, it's a great scope for the money. A kid or someone starting out for casual use is going to be very happy with it out the box. The little accessory box was a nice surprise, some good little bits in there, a kid would absolutely love it and it means you can start using the scope straight away without having to order slides and covers etc.Fun fact, it took me days to notice it has a filter tray under the condenser lens. Mostly not much use, slight blue, slight yellow, almost non existent red, but it does give you the option to put your own little filters in there like maybe a darkfield, oblique illumination and polariser. The illumination isn't too high, single white LED, but easy enough to add more light. I also use a cheap flexible gooseneck table lamp to view opaque stuff from above, metals, ceramics, dense vegetation etc.Hope that helps, overall very worth it for the money, Bear in mind you also get a phone mount and a nice carry bag along with the accessory set... and can be upgraded to something comparable to laboratory grade for next to nothing.

As I was expecting

You get what you pay for.

After reading reviews, I wasn’t expecting this microscope to be the best. As I’m just learning, I decided to give a mid priced microscope a go to start me off. It was packaged well and everything I was expecting to receive was present. It does have a battery compartment in the base, but it also comes with a USB lead so can be used without the need for batteries. The phone attachment is a little fiddly, but that probably depends more on what phone you have. The instructions aren’t the best, but I wouldn’t be able to write instructions in Chinese…..or any other language! My biggest confusion is with the magnifications. The description says it has the following objective lenses - 4x, 6x, 10x and 100x and that is how they are labelled. I then don’t understand the picture of the magnifications. 4x + 6x = 24x, + 50x = 1,200x (all good). 6x + 6x = 36x, + 50x = 1,800x (all good). 10x + 6x = 60x (not the stated 240x)+ 50x = 3,000. 100x + 6x = 600x (not the stated 2400x) + 50x = 30,000x. The “incorrectly” stated magnifications would be correct with a 40x and 400x objective lens (but would then the 50x would be wrong). Interestingly, it seems a 40x objective lens (instead of 6x is more the norm). Not sure how you get the stated “200x - 5,000x” magnification….but as I say, I’m just starting out and maths was never my strong subject. Overall, as a starting point, I believe I’ve got what I paid for.

Did the chicken come first or the egg?

The media could not be loaded. I'm an amateur. What I see in the microscope is fantastic to me. I think it's some kind of Chinese imitation, but it's really good for keeping you from getting bored at home 😜😁💯

This has to be one of the poorest microscopes ever

I purchased this item for my husband who is a professional Pest controller and urgently needed a Microscope in order to be able to identify insects as part of his job. Unfortunately this item does not only fail to meet our expectations we would have had much more look using my Grandmothers glasses to see what we needed it for the magnification certainly would have been better . The item also needed batteries that were not mentioned anywhere in the advertisement and it came with a light that was in a separate packet that had come from the pound shop!. It did come with some with some slides but the bits of plastic to cover the slides do not sick to the slides so are absolutely useless. I can honestly say that I would have been better off buying a childs microscope for a lot less money because this microscope is no better than a childs toy . The fact is that this microscope is advertised as something it is not . It poses as a professional microscope but is useless . If you are reading the review about the product then make your own mind up but what I have written about the product is both accurate and correct which is far more truthful than the advertisement for this microscope reads..
