Enjoyable and informative
This thought provoking book contains both memoir and practical advice for achieving great results in ceramic handholding techniques. I enjoyed reading her history of developing skill with and knowledge about clay.

This is by far the best book on hand building I have ever seen or owned. I highly recommend it to every potter whether you hand build or throw on the wheel. Even wheel throwers will gain tips and knowledgeable in site. The author, Sunshine Cobb, is a young, gifted potter, who will go down in the history of the clay world as one of the best in the business. Her interviews with other potters is a nice touch. Her step by step guide is easy to follow and understand. The bonus...there are templates! Buy this book, you will not regret it. A very small price to pay for all that is jam packed in this publication.

Good book even for someone who's been working in clay.
Even though I've worked with clay for years, this book still has something to offer. Well written and lots of good photographs.

The most useful, practical pottery book in my (extensive!) library...
I have a LOT of pottery books. Most of them are just pretty pictures, often of things I would never even want to make. And I usually throw pots on the wheel instead of handbuilding. But I really liked Sunshine Cobb's work, so I bought the book to see if I could pick up any tips. I actually read the book, cover to cover! She did a fantastic job of explaining WHY so many of my handbuilt pots failed to live up to my expectations, and showed, in detail, ways that almost can't fail. I am amazed at how much more I enjoy handbuilding now, and how much success I'm having at actually getting my ideas to WORK in clay. A fantastic book!

Great book with a lot of projects
I've always like the work of Sunshine Cobb and this book did not disappoint. It has projects in it that are easy to follow and lots of other good suggestions, like keeping dust down in the studio and how to make magic water. Good for beginners as well as people who have been doing pottery for awhile.

Underwhelmed and disappointed. This book is really only for beginners.
This book had me really hyped. I was hoping for some real tips but it really is only for beginners. There wasn't anything that I learned that was new or exciting. And I am by no means anywhere near an expert. If you already have the basic grasps of hand building I would not suggest buying this book. If you want a really detailed and superb book I would check out Handbuilt Pottery Techniques Revealed by Jacqui Atkin instead.
