Q: Do I need to do any programming/ write code etc. for this to work?

Yes. To anything useful with it, you will need to have a program that reads the USB data, parse it, and then take some action based upon what the values in the data. Also, I only had luck getting the device to work in Windows 10. Previous Windows versions wouldn't detect it properly.

Q: Can this device populate an excel file? do you use rtd? if so, what add-in do you use? example appreciated

No, you are basically opening a serial port and watch all channels update in a console window. You could channel the console output to a Python script and go from there. But that is it.

Q: Can I query to get A/D values upon my request?

The sampling voltage input ports are IN1-IN9, which can be connected all together, or just 1 or 2 or 3... Ports. It will output the measured value according to the connected port. If you're the one issuing the command for it to measure which value and output that value, obviously it can't do that, after all, it's not that expensive to build.
