Superb mobile DVD drive
I opened the box for this Mobile DVD-RW drive and was impressed by how it looks. The case could be solid black and boring like a lot of others however it has a night highlight from the rubber trim around the edge which also helps to hold it without it slipping out of your hand. The case itself is plastic in construction but this helps to keep the weight down and it has 4 rubber feet underneath to keep it in place on your desk. The USB 3 cable is pre-attached and secured under the unit in a channel made for it meaning you don’t have to wrap the wire around it when storing it which is a nice touch. This positive could also be a negative for some as it means the wire is relatively short and out of the back so it may limit it’s placement on a desktop computer unless you used an extension cable. For a laptop however it’s ideal.I connected the drive to a free USB port on my laptop (windows 10) and it was recognised straight away and showed as a DVD drive almost instantly requiring no driver install as you would expect.I popped a software CD inside the draw and it was seen by the computer straight away and I was able to install the software with no glitches. The process was also very quiet with no excessive noise from the drive.I also placed a blank DVD into the drive and wrote a number of files to it, again with no problem, no excessive noise and no errors.I have run a test against the drive using Nero InfoTool 5.3.3.0, the results of which are provided below and it supports all of the expected featured. I’ve also uploaded a picture of the information which is a bit easier to read.Pro’sIt does what it’s supposed to do and I had no problems with reading or writing to optical mediaThe rubber edging looks nice and is practicalThe USB cable is included and folds awayUSB 3ConsThe length of the cable may be a problem for desktop computer users without an extension.Drive Information+-----------------Drive TSSTcorp DVD+-RW TS-L633BType DVD±R/RW DL RecorderFirmware Version D400Buffer Size 2 MBDate ?Serial Number TS-L633BFirmwareVendor Specific DEDrive Letter F:\Location 0:0Mechanism TrayRead Speed 24 , 20 , 16 , 10 , 4 XWrite Speed n/aRead CD Text YesReturn C2 Pointers YesRead CD-R YesRead CD-RW YesRead DVD-ROM YesRead DVD-RAM YesRead DVD-R YesRead DVD-RW YesRead DVD-R DL YesRead DVD+R YesRead DVD+RW YesRead DVD+R DL YesRead BD-ROM NoRead BD-R NoRead BD-RE NoRead HD DVD-ROM NoRead HD DVD-R NoRead HD DVD-R DL NoRead HD DVD-RAM NoRead HD DVD-RW NoRead HD DVD-RW DL NoRead HD-BURN NoRead Digital Audio YesRead CD+G YesRead VideoCD YesWrite CD-R YesWrite CD-RW YesWrite DVD-R YesWrite DVD-RW YesWrite DVD-R DL YesWrite DVD+R YesWrite DVD+RW YesWrite DVD+R DL YesWrite DVD-RAM NoWrite DVD-RAM YesWrite BD-R NoWrite BD-RE NoWrite HD DVD-R NoWrite HD DVD-R DL NoWrite HD DVD-RAM NoWrite HD DVD-RW NoWrite HD DVD-RW DL NoWrite HD-BURN-R NoWrite HD-BURN-RW NoBuffer Underrun Protection YesMount Rainier NoSolidBurn NoLabelflash NoLightScribe NoModes Packet, TAO, DAO, SAO, RAW SAO, RAW SAO 16, RAW SAO 96, RAW DAO 16, RAW DAO 96Region Protection Control RPC IIRegion 1Changes User 4Changes Vendor 4CSS YesCPRM YesAACS NoVCPS Yes

An external USB 3.0 DVD burner with 2 x USB-A ports, an SD and a micro SD reader.
With internal CD/DVD player/recorders becoming less common in PCs and Laptops, there is an even greater need for these USB external ones, and at around £20 this burner fills the gap. This unit has a short captive connecting lead underneath with both a USB-A plug and USB Type-C. As well as the optical drive it has 2 x USB-A sockets an SD and a micro SD reader. The latter sockets have no spring stop so just push them to the end.The disk drive, USB ports and both SD and micro SD sockets worked fine with Windows 10 OS, but if your connecting device is unstable or in need of more power, a micro USB socket on the back, and a lead is supplied. This means you connect both to the USB 3 and USB 2 sockets on your PC/Laptop.To play DVDs I downloaded VLC media player and this unit played the DVDs without a problem.I like this and it’s a good price for what you get.

Good but issues with connecting to macbook pro
The item does work and works well for what I need it for. The separate wire didn't seem to work so confused as to why it's there. The lead that was pre-attached to the device worked when plugged into to a USB- USB-C converter but wouldn't work when directly plugged in with the USB-C adapter. Therefore it works for a MacBook Pro 2020 but may take a bit of trial and error.

Great value
Found some dvds lurking in a box and wanted to see what was on them but my laptop didn't have a drive. Ordered this drive as I didn't want anything too expensive and was really surprised at how simple it was to use. No software to load, no compatibility issues, just plug in and go! Only looked at data discs today, will be trying audio/visual tomorrow, but so far so good. Solid feel, neat little unit. Just read that it's a burner too, wow!

Absolutely awful
Worked once, copied a CD onto my iTunes not a problem. A few months later I got a new CD and it doesn’t recognise it, thought it might be a problem with the disc but it’s definitely just this disc drive as other discs don’t work either. Avoid this product if you can

Plug and Play
Take it out of the box, plug it into a USB port, and off you go. I was watching a DVD in minutes, and burning a CD shortly afterwards. In the days of PCs not having DVD drives built in, this is a very handy item.

Sufficient
It does the job I bought it for. Ripping my CD collection.

I can play old games again!
This was so, so easy to use. Just plug in and go. I used it to install all my old original Sims games, Roller Coaster Tycoon and Zoo Tycoon onto my new Windows laptop that sadly doesn't have a disk drive. It's not too noisy when reading disks either.I couldn't say how well it works for watching dvds though, as I haven't tried using it for that.It comes neatly packed in a small box and the USB cable can be tucked away into a groove on the underside of the drive for easy storage.Brilliant!
