Where is the Option for 10 Stars?
Wow! Chris Rea really comes out swinging on this one. The first three songs are a bit 'harder' than what Rea has done in the past, but in a good way.I was watching CNN last night when this CD arrived via UPS. The top news story was about a gay teen who killed himself, after months of trying to encourage other gay teens to 'stay strong.' Then, what do I hear on the first track of this CD? "Dancing my Blues Away," a song about a young boy's troubles/struggles. I doubt this is the theme Rea was trying to cover in this song, but much of the content paralleled what I had just heard on CNN.Rea's voice holds up well on this CD, compared to the songs he put out in the 70's and beyond. As noted, there is a rocking start, and with great instrumentation. This collection is a far cry from 'On the Beach,' 'Fool if you think it's Over,' and 'Diamonds,' some of Rea's more popular songs. His voice also dominates well on this CD, with very little from back-up singers. These songs are also more upbeat than some of his prior works. For Rea fans, you can hear flavors of "You can go Your own Way;" "Road to Hell;" "Texas;" and "Looking for the Summer" on this collection. I can also hear threads of Boz Scaggs, Talking Heads, and Van Morrison here. In fact, Rea gives Boz Scaggs a challenge in the 'smooth and cool' category with some of these songs.I was bopping down old Route 66 Highway today (now, Interstate 40), listening to 'Last Open Road.' What an experience! There are a few blues numbers here, with a wonderful beat. There are also a few mellow songs, but only one grab-your-partner-and-slow-dance number. But with a title like, 'Lose My Heart in You,' how could you not. These songs will have you tapping your feet and bopping along. It's a great collection of songs, both for long-time Rea fans and newbies. Now, if Rea would only tour the US. Otherwise, I've got to buy tickets for his upcoming European tour.Good job!

Another stellar performance!
I saw a movie in 1993, Beyond the Law, with Charlie Sheen. In that movie I discovered Michael Madsen and heard a voice that had me losing track of the movie, just waiting for the credits to roll. Yep, Chris Rea singing "The Road to Hell" and "Waiting on It". On the way home I bought 4 cds by this guy and have everyone available in US stores now. I see that many more are available from foreign listings and just got The Road to Hell and Back and Santo Spirito Blues. Both of these CDs are absolutely great! I thought he wasn't recording any more and was sad when I found out about his illness and elated when I discovered he was touring (EU only darnit) and recording again. One of a kind. Awesome CD.

Venitian inspiration
Chris Rea never lets me down with each new album. It's worth visiting YouTube to watch and hear him speak about this album. He is so clever and speaks to each song and how they came to be. His inspiration for most of the songs on this album come from his multiple visits to Venice where his daughter was studying. Chris has the inate ability to write and compose songs from a single thought or theme. The Last Open Road, Money and the Chance of Love are my favorite tracks on this one. Chris's best to date
I have been a Chris Rea fan since 1996 when a friend gave me a cassette tape to listen to. Since then I have found and purchased his music on CD. I must admit I like this one very much,I think it is his best. There is talk he should have done this or he should have done that but I think this is what he was going for in his music. He is not the best guitar player, but with his voice he is the best package out there my favorite artist along with Santana and Fleetwood Mac.

As expected another great album from Chris Rea
there is no least. As expected another great album from Chris Rea. I know he has been in better health in years past, but if he's able, I would go anywhere in the U.S. to see him in concert.

Chris Rea - Santo Spirito
For any Chris Rea fans this CD is a "must have". It is pure Chris from first to last song; great Rea lyrics, and sterling work on guitar. For anyone, especially Blues lovers, and not familiar with Chris Rea, this CD is an excellent sampling of his music. I believe you will be very happily surprised.I'm buying two more copies for some friends.

I've Always Liked The Blues
This CD arrived from 'wherever' and although the case was broken, I could easily, Dance the Blues Away (almost like the first track).I'm sure my wife or when I make a copy, if possible, for my car other drivers would be in no doubt about the fabulous BLUES I've been listening to. I have loads (technical term) of C.R. albums but this is one of the best - and now that it has finished, after slightly more than an hour? Maybe my seated-dancing to jazz will be 'the next best thing'?
