Hip Chick Tarot

Let me just say this right from the get-go…I LOVE this deck! Creator Maria Strom did a fantastic job putting this together. This is a deck for women and for men who feel the “inner chick” within. I don’t buy a lot of woman-o-centric decks anymore (I have quite a few), but I knew this one was special.Card/Box quality: The cards are a little wide, so a bit of a handful, but I love the thickness, somewhat glossy finish and found them easy to shuffle (I am a card ruffler when I shuffle). The big box is sturdy and holds both cards and book nicely.Artwork: Colorful, simple, yet meaningful images depicting culturally, ethnically, socially, physically diverse women. And why not? If you are going to do a deck about women, I don’t want to see Barbie-doll images….I want the real version of women as they truly are (in all ages, shapes, sizes colors, etc.). And this deck delivers!Cards: The backgrounds on the cards are color-coded (Majors=purple, Create/Wands=red, Feel/Cups=blue, Think/Yellow, and Earth/Pentacles=Brown). As you can see, Strom changed the name of the suits, but kept the nature of the suits intact. (Create cards are depicted as paintbrushes, Feels are depicted as hearts, Thinks are lightbulbs, and Earths are depicted as earth.) Court (she calls them Family) Cards have been metamorphosed in this manner: Queens are now the top dogs/King cards), Boss is the name of the Queen cards, Teen is the name of the Knights, and Child is the name of the Pages. Some of the Major Arcana cards have been renamed as well (for example: the Chariot is Will; the Devil is Bound).Interpretations: Though Strom does not deal with reversals, I feel reversed meanings can be inferred from her interpretations quite easily. And though this is a very positive deck in many ways, don’t be fooled, these cards will tell it like it is. Strom believes everyone needs to lovingly acknowledge all emotions, good or bad. And, let’s face it….sometimes bad things happen, you deal with it, and then you get on with your life. Strom’s cards have updated-for-today card interpretations that really resonate.So, depending on who you talk to, I may no longer be a “hip chick”, but this old lady (who’s still a hip chick at heart), has found a great new deck to play with!

So i was skeptical on buying these because i saw where another buyer bought these and was unhappy. The cards were too big and too thick for the previous buyer. This isn't the case! They're average size for a tarot deck. Yes they're thick but at leat i know that my deck won't rip easily. Overall i love the feel and look of these beautiful cards! The books is VERY helpful and informational. I believe this is the FIRST deck i have ever gotten to know so quick. Just by the pictures i went through every card one by one and was able to tell what the meaning for that card was. I do have a basic Rider Waite deck but I've never been able to really connect to those. This deck, I have definitely bonded and connected with! If you're having doubts, I did too. Make this purchase! It is well worth it! This will be my primary tarot deck from now on! Thank you Maria Strom for this beautiful tarot deck.

I was looking for a new deck with a female perspective that didn’t rely on a knowledge of ancient religions or mythology. This deck is truly a breath of fresh air.One of the great things about this deck is how intuitive it is to use, even if you haven’t memorized the meanings of the major and minor arcana in a Rider-Waite type of deck. You can look at the image and get a general message. The accompanying book goes deeper into those meanings to provide some new perspective on the card. I also love the background colors so you can get an overall feel with all of the cards together in a reading. The cards are large and on heavy card stock, so they should last a long time.All in all, an awesome deck! I may pick up a second one just in case I do wear this deck out from constant use. The cards are very easy to create a story from the flow of the cards in a spread. Good amount of supporting details without feeling like you are getting too bogged down in ALL of the details! Great vibe!

The Hip Chick Tarot really brings out the inner child. It's soulful, quirky, & definitely has a voice of its own. There isn't a deck quite like it in the tarot community. The guide book is wonderfully made, giving precise & insightful interpretations that may be used to help jump start your reading. The cards are matte, have a sturdy cardstock, & are closer to the size of oracle cards. Maria Strom has an amazing eye for color, which is carried out not only in the cards but in the book and box as well. Her modern interpretations make the cards fun & accessible. The archetypes used in the deck are women of different ages, sizes, occupatioin, & cultural backgrounds. Although it's light hearted, it really cuts through stigmas and boundaries in society. The Hip Chick Tarot truly is an empowering deck of our time.

This deck is bright and beautiful. It will bring out the hippie in all of us. It comes in a large box with a very nice sized book. Both the deck and book and box are well crafted. The deck has different headlines to the cards yet still very easy to read with. The bright fun style and vibrant colors make this stand out from others. The cards have a good feel.. soft texture and great glide. They are not stiff and give a good riffle shuffle. Once you incorporate the new term titles of the cards you will find this deck reads well and you will gain a new perspective on the traditional meanings of the cards. Your intuition will begin to flow. Wonderful and fun deck to work with.

I like this tarot deck for the colors representing each element and the back of the cards are beautiful. What I didn't like is that they are super thick they are hard to shuffle for me, also the borders seem to be getting damaged quickly I've only had this deck for a week.

I agree the matte finish is tricky, but they still feel so good in my hands. These are dripping with color and good vibes. The guide book is well written, but unnecessary; the imagery is so descriptive, the meanings are easy to divine. Empowering and female-centric. Love it!
