It lights up when you turn it on. It pulses when you play music, you you can tune off the pulsing.

Q: Would i use this speaker to listen to audio books on my kindle paperwhite?

Yes, the sound of spoken words are represented quite well in both hi and low tones. 1 will do the job but 2 units would be great In case someone speaks to the left or right. You can sepperate these around 60 feet apart and they talk to each other “ link together” with no troubles. Plus you’ll appreciate it much much more with music of any kind with 2 of these fir true stereo separation. Unlike other speakers that can be linked together, they still represent both left and right channel in both speakers and there is no stereo sepperation but these speakers when paired together actually turn one speaker into a left and the other the right and the indicator lights near the control buttons will indicate witch one is which by either having its left or right blue light on while in operation. You can turn off the lighting effect once there on by pressing and holding the extra bass button until the lights go out. When 2 speakers are linked or paired together what you do to one speaker automatically gets don’t to the other by controlling only 1 speaker. Even turning the power off to 1 shuts off the other. These are very nice speakers and will work perfect fir your needs.

I purchased 4 0f the doss speakers with one being this one and the volume appears good, but the signal appears to fade occasionally but I'm not sure if I have other 2.4 GHZ devices such as a router providing interference. I purchased mine for a new Sony TV and it don't work. I was able to talk to Doss, but they said it should work but refused to do anything since they said it wasn't advertised to work with a Sony TV. No more Doss for me.
