A Great Device for Road Trips
We bought this because we were going to a week long camp (in a college dormitory). We had heard that the one refrigerator in the dorm gets quite crowded and things can "disappear". Taking a conventional cooler was not an option because there was no ice maker on the premises and the nearest town was inconveniently located 10 miles away. This cooler worked great keeping our perishables cool for the 7 hour drive to the camp. We were pleased that the insulation was good enough to keep thing cold even when we stopped for a few hours along the way. (Note: The cooler only works when the car ignition is on; this keeps you from draining your car battery when the car is off). When we arrived at the camp, we switched to AC power. The cooler worked great on AC as well. (Note: The AC/DC converter is not included with the cooler; you must purchase it separately). We were very happy to have this at the camp. It also came in handy when we stayed at smaller motels that did not have a fridge in the room. The only problem we had was that after about 2 weeks of near constant use, it stopped working in the motel. We discovered that the cooler still worked on DC (in the car), so the problem was with the AC/DC converter. We read on line that other have had this problem with the 5.0 amp converter recommended by Amazon. Since we were traveling it was not convenient to get a replacement. We took the advice of another reviewer and bought a 5.5 amp converter at Canadian Tire. Since we got the high amp rated converter, things are working great.Do yourself a favor do not buy the 5.0 amp converter. Buy a 5.5 amp one instead.

Not to be used as a stand up.
Arrived on time. If I didn't need SOME KIND OF COOL, I'd return it. The inside tray can't hold any weight. Now it's bent and doesn't want to go back into the track. Should've been metal. The doors' hinges are rubber with screws. I don't believe that's going to last long. And my door WON'T stay closed since I'm using it as a stand up. The magnetic door closure is a joke. It won't stay cool because the door refuses to stay shut. It was advertised as a stand up as well, so I'm attempting to use it as such. My drinks come tumbling out on a turn or a sudden stop. I keep a case of water directly in front of it to try to prevent the door from opening. I can't attest to the coolness, because I haven't had it a week, and can't use it fully to verify. I'm a truck driver. My ac just went out, and I needed cool. I've got cooler than inside cab temperatures. It's cheaper to keep the cooler than inside cab temperature "cooler", than to drink very hot liquid. I will not purchase this brand or product again, nor will I recommend for stand up use. Probably better suited for lay down use, but I can't confirm. The heat works well. I connected it incorrectly first and put my drinks in for parking overnight. The next morning I open the "cooler" to almost hit to the touch water bottles. If that is what you need it for, then go for it because the heater element is great. I only have 9 water bottles inside in the stand up option because that's all it'll hold. Keep what I've stated in mind. I'm a fair reviewer of products I buy. You've been warned. Maybe mine is defective.

No more ice for us!
Bought this for a 8 hour vacation drive and was not disappointed. We also bought the AC adapter from Koolatron. Cooler works very well. Kept lunch meat and drinks ice like cold for a week. It can be stood on end like a refrigerator as well as used like a regular cooler. I would recommend this to anyone who frequently use coolers or need one for a long road trip. No more wet lunchmeat. There was also a bonus that I was unaware of when I purchased it. The main plug is marked with a red dot on one side and a blue dot on the other. If the blue is lined up with the plug alignment arrow the cooler cools. If you line up the red dot it heats. Great bonus for transporting hot meals. Well worth the purchase.

It works well on AC and on DC
We decided to go on a three week trip up the eastern seaboard. We brought fruit, drinks, and sandwich stuff. The Koolatron, at first, took about 12 hours to cool down. But once it was cool it stayed cool. It doesn't get stuff really, really cold but cold enough that some of sandwich stuff made the three week round trip and was still in good shape. And it is sooooo much better than keeping your stuff cold with ice. There's no worrying about melting ice, no pouring out the water created by the ice, and then worrying when and where you need to get ice. My wife and I are so glad we found this coolerator.

It does take a few hours to cool down room temperature food or drinks
This cooler worked perfectly for us. We have had it for a few months now and have had no problems. We got it to store food for the drive from Alaska to Nevada and still use it once in a while. It does take a few hours to cool down room temperature food or drinks, but I think the manufacturer states that. You also have to remember that it doesn't work when your car is not running, so don't think it will keep things cool over a long night of being off. I was worried it may freeze the contents if left on for a day straight and not having a thermostat, but we never had a problem. Also I liked the size. Its big enough to get several containers and jars of sandwich makings, meat, cheese, snacks and still have room for a 6 or 12 pack of drinks. But its also small enough to not be a huge waste of space in our small SUV. In our Kia Sorento we could cram it between two car seats in the middle row.
