From Hell: Master Edition

This is a classic graphic novel. The colour edition enhances what is already a brilliantly told story. The coloured panels add an extra layer of depth. I feel the colours used are within the time period as well.A superb graphics novel on all levels. A must-read for any graphic novel fan.

What a difference some colour makes to this book’s contents.All sympathetically done in pale tints you can only gaze at the artwork more as you read.A beautiful hard bound volume.

Brilliant storytelling. Gruesome take on a classic tale, some chapters were very slow and really dragged but that didn't stop me from enjoying another genius novel by Alan Moore. Also I must mention the artwork was incredible.

A well done (colour) update to an already excellent graphic novel. However I'm slightly disappointed by the condition of the 'New' book supplied by Amazon (marks on the front cover and creases to a few pages inside which make it look 'Used') as such if it was a gift for someone else I'd be asking for a replacement.

Opinion varies as to what is Moore's best work. For me it's From Hell. It's a work of real depth and intellect and rewards with each reading. I was dubious about colourising but it's been done very sympathetically and subtly.

Actual content of book is excellent. Unfortunately it arrived damaged due to only being in cardboard envelope & it’s a big heavy book!

Impressive

It's a great piece of media, of storytelling. It shows how much effort and research Alan Moore needed to do for "From Hell" to be what it is.The story itself is about Jack the Ripper and all of the stories, rumors around it. From Hell is a great mix of written story telling and visual storytelling.Overall, it's an enjoyable read and I could see myself reading this again in the future.

Fairly ingenious, this story traces history to a Center stage set of crimes that births, arguably, the Anthropocene unconscious, and the fascinating relationship of western culture with death. It morphs into a story about fiction becoming fact and fact becoming fiction, and less about anything reportedly true, though it is undoubtedly pseudo-fact. Appendixes report on the facts and allusions and liberties Moore takes with this work. Then the final chapter traces the evolution of the Ripper theories. Thus this becomes a story that trolls the idea that there is a definitive answer to murders, especially as it pertains to such historical malleable events. That doesn’t mean it has nothing to say. Arguably, it conveys far more than any other murder mystery. It roundly manages to condemn many aspects of bigotry, racism, hate, and imperialism; entertain with a mystery married to philosophy and meta physic wondering, and the very nature of the genre.At a form and structure and prose craft level, I think this is pretty unparalleled. Even the lettering conveys specific dialects and education levels with grammar and typography and spacing, or even alertness or drunkenness. The panels are engaging, the art grew on me very much. Initially, I didn’t like it much at all but—perhaps because this version is also colored?—it undeniably has a lot of skill and spends time on the things that matter. Some scenes are absolute perfection the entire thing is extremely cinematic. The structure is intricate but easy to consume.I don’t agree that it’s a challenging read. It flows well and the allusions at the start are explicit at the end, then even more so in the appendixes, of course. It’s less complex and more interesting than I had initially expected. Absolutely something I’ll pick up and read again.

The media could not be loaded. Well it's the legendary From Hell. What can I say about it but I received it in great condition. Great purchase! 😃
