Informative

An excellent guide. A bit light on details, but reputable and rare to see this subject even being tackled in a serious manner so 5 stars.

Very good! Describes development histories, dimensions, weights, performance characteristics.

This is a very good book on Chinese tanks, infantry fighting vehicles, armored personnel carriers, and self-propelled artillery. The text provides a good design development history of each tank or vehicle. The text is accompanied by numerous color photos and profile color renderings. There are also tabulations of dimensions, weights, engine horsepowers and vehicle speeds, armament, and performance characteristics. My only criticism is that there is no information on weapons dimensions or performance characteristics. I suspect that that it isn't known in some cases, but many of the weapons are derivatives of Soviet or Russian weapons so information for those weapons must be known.

Up-to-date encyclopedia of Chinese Armor

This was a terrific addition to my library -- an excellent illustrated encyclopedia of Chinese armored fighting vehicles, broken down by tanks, IFV/APCs and self-propelled artillery. Within each section, vehicles and sub-variants are detailed chronologically, providing insight into the evolution of Chinese armored vehicle development. An excellent, highly detailed compendium with beautiful artwork.

Good for General Reference Only

This book is only good as an "entry level" general reference of Chinese Tanks and AFVs. Expect nothing more. It is not useful for modellers because only a side profile of each vehicle is provided with very few photos of the real thing. Modellers need the typical 5 views of a vehicle (front, rear, left, right, and top) and this book definitely does not provide this. Minus 1 star. The book is also incomplete and contain editorial mistakes. For example, there is mention of a ZBD-03 AFV with basic stats and a profile drawing, but no description at all. Did anyone even proof read this? And what about the ZLC-2000 which ZBD-03 was derived from? Minus 1 more star.

Very good and no other alternative available.

A concise but thorough review of chinese AFVs. There are plenty of books about modern tanks, but generally we are dealing with '' coffee table books'' with nice pictures, but no technical data. Probably together with russian and modern tanks, both from Amber, the first attempt after the late Janes recognition guide from 2006. Also for chinese AFVs the only alternative are the very expensive Janes annuals or wikipedia. A special mention for the beautiful illustration from the web- Encyclopedia of tamks.

What is Chinese armor today?

Very rare book on a subject. Up until now China consider it is not something like enigma but rather a holder of bunch of old Soviet tech. This book proves otherwise. Not bad, with latest armored vehicles. A lot of illustrations data. Definitely worth buying...

Recommended.

This is a high quality book with one or more color side views of most current categories of Chinese armored vehicles on every page. This includes both tracked and wheeled vehicles from the copied Soviet to the modern indigenous designs. The vehicles are described along with their purposes, characteristics and how they compare with that of other nation's. The text presents this information amidst a general explanation of armored warfare.

Not accurate enough for the well versed and seasoned in Chinese AFV's.

A good chill out book, with rather entertaining images and general info... But it is not accurate enough for the seasoned and we'll versed in Chinese afv's, with errors that correspond more to the myth rather than what can be proved like when they describe a bow mg that the Type 62 LT never had.

Great value for money and a great reference tool

Well worth the money paid!! Every variant and type of Chinese built APC and Tank from 1950 to 2018! It's a very comprehensive little book, full of coloured artwork showing side views of the equipment described alongside colour photographs. All line art is in the appropriate camouflage of the period, from Chinese copies of the BTR-50k to the entirely Chinese designed ZDS-89-2 (Type-89) and from the Type-59, the Chinese built (with Soviet help) T-54 to the VT-5 introduced in 2018 and the cutting edge of Chinese tank manufacture. Surprisingly the book also includes anti-aircraft platforms as well as self propelled guns!! This makes this slim volume (128 pages) a handy reference on the latest technologies being developed by China. It's not a thorough reference tome as the data provided for each entry is clear, concise and to the point. Scholars wishing to trace Chinese armour development would probably preference a larger, more in depth volume, but for us who just need to know what the PLA is equipped with, it does the job! One thing of note, the entries follow in chronological order of development/production with notes of what piece it replaces and when so it is handy for wargamers building PLA forces and handy for us writing TO&E within specific time frames! I thoroughly recommend it!

Gutes Panzerbuch
