Must read for anyone who had a thyroidectomy
This is a must read for anyone who has had or will have a thyroidectomy… or anyone with thyroid issues.I wish I had read this before my thyroidectomy because I learned so much and felt seen.I am one of the “unlucky” people who had severe problems and illness after having my left thyroid removed because of a tumor on it.While feeling like death and knowing my body needed thyroid meds, my surgeon kept telling me me “But your levels are all within normal ranges” even though my TSH was 3 times higher a week after my surgery. You need all of this information to get the help you need.Sadly, we shouldn’t have to become experts in endocrinology to get help, but that’s where we are with thyroidectomy surgeries. Most surgeons are dealing with very antiquated numbers regarding thyroid blood tests.I’m so grateful for this book.Bonus.. the recipes are really good if you choose to follow the 28 day food plan.

It brought me answers
Wow! Just wow!!!!! Before I was diagnosed with an autoimmune disorder that attacks my thyroid I was at a loss as to what was wrong. After several weeks of no energy, sleeping for 12+ hrs a day and many stange aching in my joints I got a diagnosis but nothing was helping. I stumbled upon this book and as soon as I got my hands on it I couldn't put it down.It was like Dr. Myers had been going through the last 4 or 5 months of my life. I started making the changes she suggested and slowly started to feel better. This book is a MUST read if you have a thyroid problem or if you know someone who does.

It's working so far!
I purchased this book after finding my hyperthyroid condition was back in full swing (after apparently being in "remission"). Because I'm worried about a bad result on my bone density testing, I've scheduled an appointment with an endocrinologist. But in the meantime, I found this book while doing research online -- and I am very glad I did.Hyperthyroid conditions are much more difficult to treat than hypothyroid. The standard treatments are sinister, to say the least, and the author points it out up front in the book when she shares her own experience with Graves Disease. I would give anything to be able to treat my thyroid disease without invasive procedures and/or medical side effects, and this book gives a lot of HOPE and lots of possibilities. I've been on the diet for about 2 weeks and already feel much better, although I suspect improvements might be due to the L-carntine supplement I've been taking, as suggested, again, in this book, in addition to avoiding gluten, dairy, and nightshades. In any event, after following the author's suggestions for my issue, my heart hasn't been pounding as much, my sleep has improved, and I don't feel as nervous or edgy as I'd been feeling. I'm impressed! My only concern is that I doubt my family physician or my endocrinologist will believe that diet and L-carnitine have helped me feel so much better, and I do need to have my thyroid levels checked to see if the improvement shows there. That will be the telling tale.I would have given this book 5 stars if the Index had been more thorough and useful. I wanted to cross-reference and return to a couple of things I'd read earlier in the book, but couldn't find the topics I was looking for in the Index. That's a shortcoming for a reference book like this. As other reviewers have noted, I also felt that there were a lot of "pitches" for the author's own products, and at times I felt that hurt the credibility of her medical advice. Even so, I've noticed significant improvements after less than 3 weeks of following her program -- and I'm eager to keep going on this less-invasive path.

and them recommended an endocrinologist
I purchased this book and there is SO much information that Dr. Amy Myers covers in this book. I have been struggling with thyroid issues for years and going to doctors that really had no idea how to treat my issues properly. All they did was check my TSH level, which was soring out of control, and change my medication back and forth from one strength to another, and them recommended an endocrinologist. I read reviews about another local doctor and I thought I would give him a try. He did change my medication to Armour Thyroid and it has not really helped that much. He never mentioned my diet or anything about checking my blood for vitamin and mineral deficiencies. I took the list of thyroid test the Dr. Amy Myers recommends to him and asked that he do all the tests. This is when I found out the I have Hashimoto's Disease and he still never mentioned my diet. I have brain fog and depression so bad I can hardly function, so I am looking forward to following the very detailed outline that Dr. Amy Myers gives you to go by in this book. I can't wait until the end of the 28 days to see how much better I will be feeling. This is the best book I have ever read. It is very detailed about all of your symptoms and what supplements you need to take and when to take them. It also talks about how to reduce stress, which is a big factor in thyroid issues. Once I have completed the 28 day meal plan with supplements, I will update my review. I strongly believe if you are suffering with thyroid issues and feel like you are getting no where - take a chance on ordering this book. I truly believe it will change your life. Dr. Amy Myer has first hand knowledge of thyroid issues herself and knows what the medical profession can do to someone that is suffering terribly with thyroid illness. After reading this book, I know there is hope for all of us.
