R.L. Stine: The Haunting Hour: Volume 1

Such an old classic!

My wife and I love young adult and kid's horror. We particularly love the Are You Afraid Series and have looked far and wide to find something similar. It took us a while, but we finally came across the Haunting Hour. The shows are great! The episodes are generally stand-alone stories, so you can watch any episode you like without having to worry about having missed anything. Occasionally there are 2-parters that give you a longer story. Volume 1 includes five shows and four stories: Really You 1, Really You 2, A Creature was Stirring, The Dead Body, and Nightmare Inn.Really You 1 and 2 are the best shows in this volume. It's a haunted doll story. It takes a little while to get going, but ends up being really well done and downright freaky.A Creature was Stirring is a cool, unexpected take on a Christmas horror story. We really liked it.The Dead Body and Nightmare Inn were fine. Neither were great. Neither were terrible. The Dead Body is kind of a revenge story (sort of), Nightmare Inn defies description. It starts out seeming to be one thing, then turns into something quite different; saying more would give it all away so you'll have to see it for yourself but don't hold your breath.

Everything was good about this movie it plays well with no problems. Love R.L. Stine and was so glad I had the opportunity to meet him when visited my home town.

This is R.L. Stines version or modern day version of Goosebumps with a better budget & better sets,serious stories that actually are creepy as to cheesey. If you used to like Goosebumps as a kid and you want your kids to watch what you used to watch then get this. It is alot better done than Goosebumps,however i was a huge fan and that is why i collected all the dvds and these. I have nieces and they love them and when i have kids they will love em like i did i hope. These are totally safe for kids 5-12 years old there is no bad language or any provacative stuff. If your kids like creepy movies get em this.The first installment has 5 episodes and the first episode is the lenght of 2(2part episode) and 3 more episodes. It is cool your kids will like it.

My daughter loved this show growing up. She's a little older now, but she still has a craving to revisit these stories. This is well done, family-friendly horror that has held up over the years. It's a tad more scary than Goosebumps for those timid kids. We used to have every episode saved on the DVR when it aired new years ago, but we moved in 2016 and had to turn in our older equipment and haven't seen these since until recently acquiring on DVD through Amazon. Nice to own most of the series on DVD for generations that follow.
